LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
Q-switched lasers are a type of laser technology commonly used for tattoo removal. They are recognised as the gold standard in laser tattoo removal, due to the many years of clinical studies. They work by emitting short, high-energy pulses of light that are absorbed by the tattoo ink. The energy from the laser breaks the ink into smaller particles, which are then naturally absorbed and eliminated by the body.
Treatments with a Q-switched laser are typically performed in a series of sessions, with each session spaced 6-8 weeks apart. The number of treatments required can vary depending on several factors, including the size and location of the tattoo, the depth of the ink, and the individual’s skin type.
Q-switched laser tattoo removal is considered to be a safe and effective method for removing tattoos. However, as with any medical procedure, there is a rare risk of side effects, including pain, blistering, scarring, and changes in skin colour.
There are several different types of Q-switched lasers that can be used for tattoo removal, our CosJet Hero Laser is a class 4 medical grade laser, that offers two wavelengths 1064nm and 532nm for black and red inks with proven efficacy.

How will the treatment feel?
The sensation of treatment is rather like the snap of a rubber band on the skin. We use Cynosure Zimmer Cooler to ice the skin prior and throughout treatment. Most patients do not require anaesthetics, although some people may feel more comfortable with a numbing cream purchased at a compounding chemist and applied by you prior to your appointment.
How long will the treatment take?
Each treatment session is usually over in minutes, depending on the size of your tattoo will vary in treatment times.
Immediately after your treatment, some whitening of the skin may occur temporarily looking like the tattoo has faded, this ink will return shortly after treatment. The area around the tattoo might become reddish and could have some swelling or bruising. This is normal and will disappear gradually over time. We advice to ice the area as much as needed post treatment to help take the heat out and apply Tr Pro+ after treatment. Your treatment area may become itchy, please don’t itch.
What will happen to my skin afterwards?
Keep tattoo area clean and dry. Avoid heat and hot water for 48 hours. Reduce vigorous exercise for 24-48 hours. Your tattoo may become itchy but don’t pick or scratch at your tattoo. Avoid sun exposure, if you must be in the sun please cover the treatment area with a loose coverage or bandaid and ensure to change to coverings and keep the area clean. Avoid the sauna for 2 weeks. Avoid swimming in pools or the ocean for 7 days.
